So many Americans are visiting online social networking sites that Central Rural Electric Cooperative got to thinking how to harness that power to communicate better with consumer-members. The result is MySource.coop, a Web site proudly proclaiming it is “not just another Facebook or MySpace.”
The Stillwater, Okla.-based co-op partnered with Oklahoma State University and DotNetNuke, a framework for creating Web applications, to develop the site.
“It’ll be a wonderful way to communicate our programs to our members,” said Tom Parks, electrical and energy services specialist at CREC.

Not just another pretty Facebook
MySource.coop attempts to fill a need demonstrated by the 62 percent of Americans who have visited a social-networking Web site, like Facebook or MySpace. But it's a lot different.
Launched by Central Rural Electric Cooperative in Stillwater, Okla., in August, MySource.coop resembles its more famous counterparts in that folks can meet new people and invite them to join a neighborhood group. Users can also upload favorite videos, create photo galleries, store document, and send and receive messages.
